OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)

OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) or overall equipment efficiency is a system for analyzing the overall efficiency of equipment, designed to control and improve production efficiency and based on the measurement and processing of specific production indicators.

The OEE factors include three performance criteria:

  • Availability (A);
  • Performance (P);
  • Quality (Q).

OEE formula?

OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

 

“AVAILABILITY% = ((CREATION TIME / TIME) * 100%))

This metric is intended to measure how much equipment is actually available for production. So it takes into account both the time it planned to work and the amount of time it actually worked. Of course, the available time will be influenced directly by planned and unplanned stops.

“PRODUCTIVITY% = (ACTUAL PRODUCTION CYCLE X ACTUAL PRODUCTION HOURS) / (ESTIMATED PRODUCTION CYCLE OF X PLANNED PRODUCTION HOURS) * 100%”

This indicator evaluates whether a particular machine is producing as expected. Basically, we want to see how many products it has achieved within the expected time frame in relation to overall potential.

“QUALITY% = (CORRECT PRODUCTION / GENERAL PRODUCTION) * 100%”

This last indicator will assess whether the result is actually useful. An example of working with a forklift, suppose that from time to time the boxes are placed incorrectly and therefore must be replaced.

The reasons influencing the decrease in the value of the OEE indicator:

  • Load time (scheduled time): preparation time for the start of the production process, including equipment changeovers, information download period, unscheduled stops for equipment, personnel and quality checks.
  • The time during which the release of products is not scheduled. Includes scheduled shutdowns for equipment maintenance, scheduled meetings, time for the release of prototypes (if this product is not going to be sold), scheduled training (if the product is not being produced at the same time), off-hours – holidays and weekends.
  • The amount of a substandard product.
  • The stop time is both scheduled and unscheduled times.
  • Equipment running at a slower speed than expected to produce a product of this size and format. This is wasted time, which is the difference between the time required and the time actually spent manufacturing the product.

OEE indicators allow you to objectively assess the impact of the current performance of an individual piece of equipment on the efficiency of the entire production.
